The popular Chinese application Tik Tok was banned from using the US military. According to the US government, Chinese developers using this program are aimed at stealing the personal data of users, and not at all entertaining a bored teenage audience.

All employees of all ranks in the US Armed Forces are prohibited from installing this program on business mobile phones. In December 2019, the U.S. Department of Defense issued an official statement warning of the potential danger of this program.

For personal purposes and on personal gadgets, soldiers are not prohibited from using, but the US Armed Forces urge employees to be extremely careful in order to avoid leakage of personal information.

The social network TikTok was created, it would seem, for entertainment purposes. In TikTok, users themselves shoot and post videos, many of which become viral. Tik Tok instantly became popular all over the world, in connection with which the US government suspected that the authorities of the People’s Republic of China would try to force developers to cooperate with China’s intelligence.

Today, TikTok is the fourth most popular non-gaming application, surpassing Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Snapchat in terms of downloads. The audience of the social network is more than 800 million people, almost half of which are users under the age of 18 years.

The publication feed consists of funny, vibrant music videos lasting 15 seconds, which can be processed using a large set of filters, masks and other effects. The content is a wide range of publications from witty humorous sketches to the simple crookedness of amusing teenagers.

As a TikTok phenomenon, experts tend to call the apotheosis of clip thinking of the modern young generation. Clips do not cause tension of mental activity, do not force to think and reflect, analyze, compare. Only fun, relaxation and pleasant emotions. Apparently, this was not enough for the modern user, because the application became popular literally at the moment of its publication. And any social network develops only due to the activity of its users. People themselves come up with content, they themselves choose the most attractive to them, share, distribute - and now the social network is already living a full life.

In addition, users like the recommendatory nature of the content. A person wants to see something in which he is at least indirectly interested. Artificial intelligence, on the basis of which this social network works, perfectly copes with this task - the user in the recommendations will get exactly what he liked before, guessing (or rather, observing and remembering) preferences. Posts on TikTok gain four times as many likes as posts with the same number of views, for example, on Instagram.

The application is popularly called "Instagram for the poor" because, unlike Instagram, you don’t need to be a glamorous kitty, and a luxury style is generally not welcome and even makes fun of. The videos are shot anywhere, users do not bother with the creation of glossy images. Here everyone can be themselves and, as it turned out, this is what millions of users have dreamed about. 15 seconds of fame can bring so many likes and subscribers, to collect an audience that would take years to form on Instagram.

This is what made the owners of giant platforms and the authorities of some countries strain. Mark Zuckerberg accused China of imposing his vision of the Internet on the world community. You can understand Zuckerberg - competitors have grown before his eyes, from where they did not wait: 10 years ago all the major Internet platforms were American, and today Chinese developments occupy six places in the top ten.

And the US authorities simply ordered them to forbid using the military’s social network. Based on concerns about the country's security. The United States has long accused the Chinese authorities of trying to break into social networks, including commercial and government ones. In 2015, for example, the FBI directly accused Chinese hackers of breaking into 21 million records from the U.S. personnel management system.

Although the opinion on this issue is not uniform. Some analysts are inclined to consider the application a good platform for recruiting new recruits among the younger generation, if, of course, imagine serving in the American army in 15-second clips from its brightest side.
